Common raw materials for plastic bottles include polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyester (PET), high barrier (EVOH), etc., among which low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene can be used as eye drop bottles. Both of the raw materials for production are non-toxic and tasteless, and can resist corrosion by various acids, alkalis and other solvents. The difference is that low-density polyethylene feels soft and easy to squeeze. Compared with LDPE, polypropylene is harder, less flexible, and fragile at low temperatures. It is generally used in powder bottles or small-capacity liquid bottles.
In terms of ease of use, LDPE material is more in line with the use requirements of eye drop bottles, and will be squeezed without creases, and will return to its original shape. The eye drops are usually administered by the patient themselves. If the bottle body is too hard, it will affect the patient’s experience and make it resistant to the brand of eye drops. To a large extent, no second purchase will be made. In addition, packaging will also have a certain impact on the reputation of the drug.
In general, LDPE eye drop bottles are more convenient than polypropylene in terms of drug delivery experience, and are favored by many eye drop manufacturers.
