The meaning of the triangle symbol at the bottom of plastic bottles

May 11 , 2021

Plastic pharmaceutical packaging bottles are used in all walks of life due to their rich colors, easy transportation, easy processing and molding, and low cost, which facilitate people's lives. Careful people will find that there will be a triangle symbol connecting end to end at the bottom of the bottle, and the inside of the symbol is marked with a number between 1-7. So what do these symbols mean?

The triangle symbol at the bottom of the plastic packaging bottle is the recycling mark of plastic products, which is equivalent to the "identity card" of plastic containers. It was formulated by the Society of the Plastics Industry (now renamed Plastics Industry Association) in 1988. This set of logos stamps plastic material identification codes on containers or packaging, from No. 1 to No. 7, so that people can easily join the ranks of recycling without having to bother to learn the similarities and differences of various plastic materials. There are numbers from 1 to 7 in the triangle. Each number represents a kind of plastic container. They are made of different materials, and there are also different contraindications.

No. 1 PET (polyethylene terephthalate): common mineral water bottles, carbonated beverage bottles, etc. Heat-resistant to 70°C, it is easy to deform, and some harmful substances are melted out.

No. 2 HDPE (high-density polyethylene): containers for detergents, shampoos, shower gels, edible oils, pesticides, etc., are not thoroughly cleaned, and recycling is not recommended.

No. 3 PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): It can heat up to 81°C and it is easy to produce bad substances, difficult to clean and easy to remain, so do not recycle.

No. 4 LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene): It is not resistant to heat, and usually melts when the temperature exceeds 110°C, and will leave some plastic preparations that cannot be decomposed by the human body. Do not heat in the microwave when storing food and beverages. To

No. 5 PP (polypropylene): resistant to high temperatures of 130°C, this is the only plastic box that can be placed in a microwave oven, and can be reused after careful cleaning.

No. 6 PS (polystyrene): Although it is heat-resistant and cold-resistant, it cannot be heated in a microwave oven, otherwise it will emit toxic substances. It also cannot be used to contain strong acids (such as orange juice) and strong alkaline substances, otherwise it will decompose polystyrene which is harmful to the human body.

The above is about the meaning of the triangle symbol at the bottom of plastic packaging bottles. In fact, in recent years, plastic packaging bottles have been developing in the direction of green and environmental protection.
