Infrared spectrometry for pharmaceutical packaging materials

Nov 20 , 2019

Infrared spectrophotometry is to measure the absorption spectrum of a substance within a certain wavenumber range, and is mainly used for the identification of pharmaceutical packaging materials. Infrared spectroscopy methods for medical packaging materials include transmission and attenuation total reflection. Transmission means that the infrared transmission spectrum is obtained by measuring the change in intensity of infrared light before and after passing through the sample.

Attenuated total reflection refers to the reflection spectrum of infrared light passing through the ATR crystal at a certain angle of incidence and after multiple reflections on the surface of the sample closely attached to the crystal. It can be divided into single point attenuation total reflection and plane attenuation total reflection. The transmission method generally measures the absorption spectrum in the range of 4000-4000 cm wave number, and the attenuation total reflection generally measures the absorption spectrum in the range of 4000-650 cm wave number.
